Question by mccabe: Careers For Someone AWFUL At Math? HELP!?
I am GREAT at English, and suck at math. I have tried to study and study, but I just cannot for the life of me wrap my brain around any of it. It’s like Chinese to me. I am in NYC. I have not finished college, and I need advice on a school or career that DOESNT INVOLVE MATH! I know I’m limiting myself, but I just can’t do math. I can’t. I am just looking to make average money, any career/school will do JUST NO MATH! Give me some ideas, THANKS!

Question by ynra: What to give a friend who has help me through my wedding process but is not part of my wedding party?
I have a friend who is a manager in a catering hall. Because the hall i rented for the wedding is a “rent everything yourself” kind of hall I have had alot of questions and she has helped me with all my questions. Plus on the day of the wedding she is lending us her apartment so me and my bridesmaids could get ready in her home because she has a big apartment with balcany and that’s big here in nyc especially manhattan where we live. What can i give her to show her my gratitude for everything she has done for me in this wedding process?
thanks in advance

Best answer:

Answer by Laneymom
I would either give her the same gift you are giving your bridesmaids, or maybe send her flowers the day after the wedding. (Of course, a personal thank you note too.)

Best answer:

Answer by Sally
A simple, small wedding with the person I care about more than anything or anyone: the person I’d die just thinking of being alone without them.
And of course them feeling the same way.
But wedding’s aren’t about how big your cake is, or how many people are coming, it’s about promising your life, body, soul and heart to the the person your marrying too and them promising you the same.
Of course, a wedding isn’t a wedding if there’s no guy dressed as Spock.

Any ideas for a place for a wedding luncheon/shower in NYC? Fairly casual (in ambiance and price!). People are coming from Long Island, Queens, Brooklyn, NJ, etc, so I want some place fairly convient for them all…. so esp by a train station would be great! But any ideas helpful!
(and by a good price I really am looking at $ 30/pp since most places in NY have a high room rental charge before you even factor in the food!)
I’m thinking northern Brooklyn is the most convient location wise.

Question by sxycaramel: Can you put a better catching name on your awning despite your business name?
I have a business that I started 6 years ago. Its a generic name which means it covers everything I do. I am a wedding and event planner plus i now have a retail store. I think my business name will be boring on the awning, so I came up with a eye and ear catching name that will draw better attention to my business. Is that ok? or do I have to use my registered business name? I know I see people put different things on their awning all the time, but I don’t know if its legal. I’m in NYC

Best answer:

Answer by Jake Birdem
Don’t know NY regulations, I would think you can add a slogan like “The best in town” in lettering bigger than the business name.

Quebec? has specific regulations regarding the size of English lettering vs French.

Question by clarivocal: How much did your wedding planner cost? (NY/NJ)?
Hi recent and upcoming brides!

I’m looking to begin a wedding planning/consulting business, and I’m trying to get an idea of what the existing rates are in my area. My focus will be on North/Central Jersey and the NYC metro area.

If anyone out there used or is using a full service planner, a day-of coordinator, or anything in between, and is willing to share how much you were quoted for the service, it would be a great help to me in writing up my business plan.

Thank you, congratulations, and good luck with your weddings!!

Michal Parrington
Married August 23, 2009

Best answer:

Answer by planner
i am a wedding planner but from virginia. your area is much more expensive but the planners in our area charge about 65 an hour. most have various package plans where the brides can choose to have a full service plan all the way to the day-of plan. most people charge about 10% of the total cost of the wedding with a minimum charge of 2000 for the full service plan. for the day-of plan, it depends upon how far before the service and how much after reception work must be done…like if you have to supervise cleanup after the reception or be there for the decorating and set up prior to the wedding but the minimum is normally 500 and goes from there.

hope that helps.

Question by Nicole: What do you look for when choosing your wedding venue or wedding planner?
I am currently a wedding specialist at a beautiful property in the east coast of the United States. I am looking to rework some of the packages that we offer our brides. Im thinking the best way to offer what brides want is to ask the Bride
So…. Say you were paying a per person package price of $ 70 per person and our package included Room fees, Dinner, Linens including chaircovers and a dance floor. What else would you like to see included in your package? And also, what do you want to see in the Wedding Specialist to make your decision on that package?

Best answer:

Answer by Blunt
$ 70 per person on the East Coast? That must be some shanty. On the north east you cannot even get a decent lunch for that.

Anyway, for $ 70 per person, I would not expect much other than mystery meat, water in some obscure location.

It would be help where in the “east Coast” you are, If it would be New England, NYC, D>C>, I would never go there. South Carolina, Georgia, maybe, but I would market it as a budget bride costumers. What I look for on a venue is LOCATION, experience, cleanliness, references, security, spotless facilities, newer equipment, good reputation.

Good luck

Question by Miss J. Smith*: Do you think I could have a chance in getting into Notre Dame University? ?
Okay I’m a tenth grade student and I need to have like my college choices picked out by the end of this year. I really want to go to Notre Dame. I am interested in their law school bigg time because I want to be a lawyer and also get into politics. I have big goals set for myself.
- being a lawyer. – getting into politics. – a possibly one day being a wedding planner on the side! -oh and also i plan to write a book sometime!:)
But the question is do you think I have a good chance of getting into Notre Dame? Like I don’t have the best grades. I have made straight As a bunch before but a couple times in the past have made some bad ones. I’ve made better grades more than bad ones though. Other than grades, I do have a lotttt of good things to look at:

-I’m in a Debutante Society.(which I’ve done different things like helps with Meals on Wheels)
- I play soccer for my high school
- I run track for my high school
- I play softball for a team out of high school
- I have won many awards for my writings
- I am a christian and attend church.
- I am involved with like every church activity there is at my church.
(like mission work and community work)
- I am a BIG reader. I read a lot of books that older people read lol
—Also something really big is that I’m one out of few people that got chosen at my school to go to summer trip to DC this summer for 14 days. They chose me as a representative to have practice in the area of Law/Government and Forensic Science because I scored big on a career test I had taken last year.

I really would enjoy going to Notre Dame. Be honest and tell me if you think I really have a good chance of being able to go to the school.

Best answer:

Answer by ilikenapalm
Don’t fret so much about college. With a resume like that, you’ll probably get accepted everywhere you apply.

Question by NeedsAnswers!: How to pick/combine/choose careers?
I change my future career daily. Currently, I am a Junior in high school. Obviously, this is an important year and I really need to start thinking about my future seriously.
My top career choices are as followed:
1.) Singer/Actress (Famous)
Obviously, that one is a pretty big dream. Whatever. It stays on the list just in case.

2.)Psychologist/Therapist
My family and friends recommend based on advice I give to them, things I talk about or situations I handle.

3.) Advice columnist.
See above. (:

4.) A wedding planner.
Which is ironic because I don’t believe in love, but people recommend it to me all the time.
It would definitely be fun to plan everything.

5.) A beautician/cosmetologist.
I cut, dye, and style my own hair along with my friends and families. I’d at some point in my life like to open a beauty salon and spa. I haven’t decided ultimately, hence this question.

Facts:
I know I don’t have to choose today. I can go to college without knowing. Or I could change my mind in the future. But I just want to have a plan until I feel ready to not choose. Does that make sense? I just want to be prepared and know what I want.

I live in Chicago at the moment, but would like to at some point move to a borough in NYC.
I’d LOVE college recommendations beneficial to the careers above.
I LOVE animals.
I succeed in reading, writing, singing, drama, arts of every kind, etc.
I’m great with people.
HELP?!?!?!

Answer by Orange Umbrella
I remember when I was in Junior High. My career changed daily almost. It’s good to have a rough idea what you want to do while you are in Highschool because you will need certain courses to get into the University you want and courses you need. When I made my decision it wasn’t easy. I had to go off something that I had good marks in Highschool for, and what interested me. My best subject in Highschool was English. So I focused on careers that required great English. I also always wanted to go into something to do with Justice or law so I am a Paralegal now.

I’m going to be moving to New York as soon as I’m done with all my schooling, I need to pick a career that I would get work with in nyc..
What are some jobs/careers that I could pick up pretty easy in new york..

Some jobs I was thinking of were

Wedding planner
Vet
Pharmacist/pharmasists assistant
Dietician
Real estate agent…

But anything you can think of would really help,

Thank you soooo much !

Answer by e_cool
Here is how to pick a career you like.

1) Make a list of things you like to do. What are some of the hobbies that bring you great joy?

2) Make a career at doing the things you enjoy. For example perhaps you love houses, selling, and talking to people. Have you thought about working as a Real Estate Agent?

3) Find out what some of your friends do for a living, talk to them about their careers. Ask them what they love about it, what they dislike about it and if they’ve ever thought about doing anything else.

4) Check out websites that will give you some careers to investigate for yourself after answering some personality questions.
